Guitars Are Just Plain Beautiful
The beauty of the guitar in all its varieties comes through readily enough, even to many non-guitar players. For sure, a guitar holds a place in rock 'n roll that is part and parcel of the rock experience. This is especially so when one considers how many famous rock and even jazz musicians are associated with a particular guitar. Some of the most famous guitarists have actually given a name to their personal guitars, in fact.
As an example, consider how many famous rock 'n roll musicians are immediately associated with a Gibson or a Fender. Likewise, think about famous folk musicians and the kinds of acoustic guitars they play, especially the very well-known dreadnought acoustic guitar rig that's graced the shoulders of some of the most famous folk musicians in recent history. The guitars may have cost thousands or may have been bought secondhand, but the fact is they are joined at the hip with their musicians, most times.
At any rate, a guitar is a beautiful instrument and it has a shape and form that helps it to stand out from a number of other instruments. Another attractive feature of any kind of guitar is that it's usually very easy to play on at least a rudimentary level. Additionally, acoustic guitars are actually extremely attractive to many people because they don't require amplifiers and are extremely portable.
Before deciding to pick up a guitar -- especially something relatively expensive like an Alvarez acoustic guitar -- check out the kinds of music that are suitable for the kind of guitar being owned. For a fact, very famous rock guitarists report never having touched an acoustic guitar and more than a few of the most famous folk musicians say that they've never even looked at an electric guitar. This is probably more a matter of preference, however.
Generally speaking, there are couple of different music styles that are more appropriate for electric guitar playing, such as blues, rock and jazz while acoustic guitars seem to be appropriate for folk music and the like. There's nothing wrong with this separation, and it's also true that there have been more than a few rock ballads and the like in which an acoustic guitar has played a large part and vice versa. Fender puts a serial number on each guitar made. Look at the front of the headstock. Most often it is located on the front of the headstock. If not there, check the back side of the headstock. If not there, check the back side of the heel of the neck just above the body. Some of the Japanese made guitars have the serial number there. One last place it could be. Certain models have the serial number engraved into the neck plate. The serial number will be in one of those locations.
If you have a 70s Fender guitar, the body and the pickguard (back side) should also have the same serial number as on the headstock.
You can also check the date of a vintage Fender several ways. On the heel of the neck the date of manufacture of the neck will be marked. Some bodies are marked usually in the neck pocket. The back side of vintage (pre 1980) pickups carry a code number which contains the week and year of manufacture. The pots have a code number on them which tells the year of manufacture.
