How do you fix a short circuit in an electric bass guitar?
A guy gave me a Squire Bullet electric bass guitar. When I asked him what was wrong with the bass he said there was a short in the input jack where you plug in a cable. What exactly does this mean and how can it be fixed? Free bass, might as well try to fix it, right?
Only do this if you know what you are doing. Most guitars will have two wires soldered to the input jack. Over time they can become corroded or loss. I have even seen one wire touching the other. Unscrew the two screws, not all guitars are the same, and carefully pull the input jack out. DO NOT PULL! Look over the wires and see if they are touching. If not do they look loss or what looks like dull rust? If you need to replace the whole input jack with a new one by soldering in a new jack. Best bet, and for best results, if you have never soldered, or worked with electronics take it in to the guitar shop and have them do it. Sometimes it's just bad knobs, or bad wiring all around. Also, they can look over your pick-ups and test most connections.
